Hackers hit 700 French supermarkets, spoiling millions in food — researcher suspects AI-assisted attack

Hackers targeted some 700 supermarket facilities across France, cranking refrigerator temperatures to as high as 122°F and ruining millions of euros of food, leaving Intermarché shelves empty and prompting a frantic probe.
The poster argues this exploitation of an esoteric vulnerability is almost certainly AI (assisted) and "it's not gonna get better from here" — suggesting AI is lowering the barrier to complex cyberattacks.
Notably, the target wasn't traditional IT but IoT devices (connected fridges), showing edge devices of critical infrastructure are now a real attack surface.
