Claude Desktop update quietly kills project grouping, leaving months of sessions a flat list
Stabmaster · reddit · 2026-10-15
A Mac user who has run Claude Code desktop for 7 months reports that updating Claude Desktop removed project grouping from the Code tab sidebar. Six months of local sessions organized by client folder became one flat list with no way to group or filter, and the Environment picker is useless for local-only sessions.
This isn't the first time: grouping vanished in late April, the project filter was dropped in 1.22209.0 (July), and the Last Activity filter disappeared in 2.1.217 — none of it noted in release notes, while the docs still claim sessions can be grouped by project. The author asks if others see this on the latest build and whether any workaround exists besides moving to the CLI.
