jira-easy-mcp: Open-Source MCP Server Brings 42 Tools to Legacy Self-Hosted Jira
Altruistic_Rich1642 · reddit · 2026-10-15
The author open-sourced jira-easy-mcp (ISC license) to solve a real gap: many companies still run Jira Server/Data Center with API tokens disabled, while Atlassian's official MCP is Cloud-only, leaving agents like Claude Code and Cursor locked out.
- Uses REST v2 with Basic auth — a plain Jira username + password is enough
- Ships 42 tools: issues, JQL, transitions, comments, worklogs, links, attachments, sprints, custom fields by display name
- Every tool is CI-tested against Jira 7.13, 8.20, 9.12 and 10.3
- One-line setup: claude mcp add jira -e JIRABASEURL=... -e JIRAUSERNAME=... -e JIRAPASSWORD=... -- npx -y jira-easy-mcp
