Codex team explains app RAM growth: subprocesses and agent tasks fold into the app
Dimillian · x · 2026-10-15
A user reported seemingly bad RAM allocation in the Codex app, with memory usage growing over time.
Responding, Codex's Thomas Stottiaux acknowledged the behavior: anything Codex runs as a subprocess and anything the agent is doing gets folded into the app, so memory and CPU usage can easily grow. He added that the team has "a TON we can improve."
