Claude engineer's tutorial: four types of ambition — Speed, Altitude, Depth, Range
daniel_mac8 · x · 2026-10-15
Felix Rieseberg, who works on Claude, wrote a tutorial answering the rallying cry that 'we're not ambitious enough' with AI — noting most users still stop at 'What is the capital of France.'
He frames ambition in four types:
- Speed: same work in less time; AI's bread-and-butter economic value
- Altitude: moving up in abstraction, focusing on outcomes rather than individual tasks
- Depth: approaching a task the way a field-leading expert would
- Range: extending across domains
Illustrated with examples like Claude helping discover a new planet and his first genuinely liked AI music video, echoing Terence Tao's point that models are 'astounding in some directions, inadequate in others.'
