TV noise drops voice agent task completion from 38.7% to 8.6%; audio cleanup model helps
deliprao · x · 2026-10-15
- Josh Meyer's team benchmarked 14 voice agents with a TV playing in the background: task completion fell from 38.7% to 8.6% — just turning on a TV can break voice agents.
- Follow-up: adding a tiny audio cleanup model (ai-coustics Quail Voice Focus) to the pipeline lifts completion across noise conditions — TV from 1% to 21%, Café 19%→35%, Street 28%→31%, all calls 17%→27% (TV difference significant, p=0.0001, Fisher's exact test, 74–75 calls each).
- Takeaway: background noise is a real blocker for voice agents, but a small denoising front-end yields large gains.
