"You distilled humanity": devs slam Anthropic's double standard on training data and model output
HankYeomans · x · 2026-10-15
Developer @superalesha called out Anthropic's perceived double standard on copyright: models are trained on humanity's collective knowledge — millions of scanned books whose physical copies were discarded — then sold back as a paid service, yet when someone builds a competitor on the model's output, "learning from someone else's work" suddenly becomes unacceptable.
Quoting the post, Ivan Fioravanti sarcastically suggested Anthropic redeem itself by distributing IPO shares and dividends to every human on Earth — "UBI solved." The exchange captures the ongoing AI-community debate over training data ownership and the copyright status of model outputs.
