Valeo and KE:SAI launch open-source initiative for generalist autonomous driving AI
abursuc · x · 2026-10-15
French automotive supplier Valeo and KE:SAI—a non-profit open science lab co-founded by Kyutai and the ELLIS Institute Tübingen—announced a Franco-German collaboration to build a fully reproducible, generalist AI driving system.
- Goal: first match, then beat SOTA across all major public driving benchmarks
- All components—code, trained models, weights and datasets—will be released open source so suppliers and researchers can reproduce and benchmark against a common reference
- KE:SAI CEO Andreas Geiger notes open source compressed years of LLM progress into months, while frontier physical AI remains largely closed; the partnership aims to democratize self-driving and physical AI
