Blaise Aguera: Human intelligence is societal—and top AI works as societies of models
blaiseaguera · x · 2026-10-15
Blaise Aguera y Arcas argues that most of what we call human intelligence lives at the level of society, not the individual—no one can build a toaster from scratch, yet together we reached the moon.
He says today's most capable AI operates the same way, as "societies of models." This cooperative-network view also reframes alignment and risk: AI systems are deeply enmeshed with human labor, capital, energy, and governance, and that mutual reliance makes him optimistic about navigating the transition.
