Anthropic adds OpenTelemetry tracing for Claude Managed Agents, Messages API and SDKs
Claude (Anthropic) · rss · 2026-10-14
Anthropic announced public beta of OpenTelemetry traces on the Claude Platform, covering Managed Agents, the Messages API, and Claude SDKs.
- Every agent turn, model call, and tool/MCP call is exported as a standard OTel trace with latency, tokens, and IDs.
- Traces follow OpenTelemetry GenAI semantic conventions, working alongside app logs in Grafana Cloud, Honeycomb, Sentry, and Splunk, and can be turned into evals in Arize, Braintrust, Datadog, Langfuse, LangSmith, New Relic, and PostHog.
- Databricks Unity Gateway support enables org-wide token usage tracking and anomaly detection.
- Customer proof: Ramp's Reflect system scores Langfuse traces to find recurring agent failures, already cutting token usage 10-20% and making sessions 30% faster on some agents.
- Setup: add a destination in Claude Console; SDKs export traces automatically.
