NYT Launches Interactive Game Letting Readers Write the Rules for AI
ShakeelHashim · x · 2026-10-15
The New York Times Editorial Board launched 'Slash, Prune or Let It Grow: How Would You Manage A.I.?', an interactive project letting readers set rules for AI, backed by expert-informed answers compiled with dozens of experts — covering regulatory dilemmas down to whether it's OK for a chatbot to write your wedding toast.
The board's core stance: AI regulation must be democratic and humane, and 'the companies building this new technology cannot be left to police themselves.' Framed against chatbot boyfriends, killer drones and self-driving trucks between Dallas and Houston, it argues the window for humans to shape AI is closing fast. Contributor Shakeel Hashim earned an 'additional reporting' byline.
