Wonderhop: A daily guessing game
A two-developer team from Montreal built Wonderhop in about two months — a browser game with no signup. Each day has 4 rounds of 7 questions (e.g. "Name a food a lot of people hate") with four modes: guess the most common answer, the one nobody gives, the oldest, or the most recent, plus a daily leaderboard.
The tech: an AI judge
- The hardest part was interpreting free-typed answers across 10 languages: typos, plurals, nicknames, and duplicate phrasings.
- Solution: an AI judge backed by external APIs like Wikipedia to verify each answer's validity in under 1 second on average.
- Percentages start from an estimate and converge quickly as real players answer; missing good answers get added once a few players submit them.
Much of the code was written with AI tools, while art direction, concept, and design choices stayed human-made. The game also hides plenty of secrets and pop-culture references.
