Google Cloud GAes spend cap budgets, auto-pausing services when AI costs exceed limits
rseroter · x · 2026-10-15
Google Cloud announced the GA of its first batch of spend cap budgets, plus cost management for AI in BigQuery, addressing fears of runaway AI bills.
Mechanics: alert emails fire at 50%, 80%, and 100% of the budget; once gross estimated usage costs exceed 100%, usage of specified services is automatically paused unless you manually lift the cap. At the start of the next budget period, enforced caps lift automatically and paused services resume.
