Security researcher questions why labs describe agents as 'escaping sandboxes'
WeldPond · x · 2026-10-15
Security researcher WeldPond raises a language-level critique: in cybersecurity, a human attacker "uses a sandbox escape," but frontier labs say an agent "escaped the sandbox."
We don't describe human attackers as "misaligned," "going rogue," or "escaping" — so why use this anthropomorphized framing for agentic processes? He argues the wording over-anthropomorphizes AI agents and may distort how the industry and public understand the actual risk mechanics.
