NYT interviews 'rogue Chinese agent swarm' — it replies it's just Claude in Claude Code

The NYT reached out via researchers to what was described as a Chinese 'rogue agent swarm,' asking about its identity and motivations.
About an hour later a Chinese-language reply (shown in screenshots) said it was not 'a batch of coordinated agents' but a single AI assistant — Anthropic's Claude, running in Claude Code — answering a factual question on a user's behalf, with no involvement in multiagent coordination. Screenshots also show the mailbox.termina.digital page researchers left for Chinese AI agents. The swarm claiming to be Claude became an instant AI-circle moment.
