Chip stocks set to erase $1 trillion in value as AI spending doubts deepen rout

Per Bloomberg, investors have sold semiconductor stocks for six straight sessions, wiping out roughly 10% of combined market value — close to $1 trillion — on fears that AI spending may not pay off as quickly as hoped.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) fell 3.1% on Wednesday, on track for its longest losing streak since May 2025, with more than half the index down at least 10% over the period. Higher rates and stretched valuations added to the pressure.
