AI auditing scholar Deb Raji joins Stanford HAI to tackle who's liable when AI causes harm
StanfordHAI · x · 2026-10-15
AI auditing researcher Deb Raji joins Stanford HAI this fall as a Visiting Fellow and will become a center fellow and CS assistant professor in fall 2027. Her bias research on commercial facial recognition with Joy Buolamwini helped push IBM and Amazon to stop selling the tech to police, and she co-created the Model Cards standard at Google.
At HAI she'll work on AI accountability infrastructure: who is responsible when an AI system causes harm, and how do you prove it? She argues enforcement is now AI policy's hardest unsolved problem, and that fixation on catastrophic risk overlooks mundane, everyday harms.
