NVIDIA's 800 VDC wall: GaN gets the attention, SiC gets the dollars

Creative Strategies analyzes NVIDIA's MGX 800 VDC display, where twelve suppliers showed compute-tray power boards built to the same reference design: an 800V hotswap plus conversion from 800V to 50V, 12V or 6V. NVIDIA names fourteen silicon partners for 800 VDC in total; ten were on the wall alongside module makers Delta and Megmeet. Device choice follows the voltage stage — SiC handles high-voltage conversion and protection, GaN fits fast switching inside compute trays — and supplier qualification determines which designs reach production. When that many vendors show interchangeable boards, the board itself carries little pricing leverage: GaN gets the attention, SiC gets the dollars.
