The Verge reports Microsoft researchers published in Nature a cost-effective machine learning method that makes weather forecasts more accurate two to six weeks in advance — beyond the 2-week reliability limit of physics-based and existing AI models — helping farmers and emergency responders plan ahead. The tool is open-source, adding Microsoft to the AI weather forecasting race alongside Google, Nvidia, and others.
