Grok Imagine quietly adds in-app music generation for video soundtracks
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-15
Starting the evening of October 13, multiple creators posted screen recordings of a Music (or Original Audio) panel inside Grok Imagine on the web: pick a video you made, describe genre, mood, instruments, and tempo, and the tool auto-writes lyrics and builds a full track. You can trim a section on the audio timeline, apply it to the clip, and save favorites to a reusable music library.
It's a closed, consumer-only feature — no public music API, no model card, and xAI hasn't announced it on x.ai/news. Early demos call the quality "Suno-like"; one creator claims the backend is Google Lyria 3, which is unconfirmed. For audio makers already storyboarding in Imagine, in-canvas soundtrack generation removes a hop to Suno or Udio — but anyone waiting on an API or open weights still has to wait.
