Epic 'vibe coded' its new launcher, cold start 1.8x faster than Steam

Epic Games has released a Preview of its rebuilt game launcher, openly admitting it was "vibe coded." The new launcher, built from scratch for Windows, macOS, and Linux, posts benchmarks that beat Steam: 5.47s cold start vs Steam's 10.07s (1.8x faster), Store opening 3x faster, and 0.36s background-to-library switching.
It ships with a unified Store/Library/Develop frame, one-click access to recent games, built-in party chat, a customizable top bar, and a consolidated download manager. Epic is soliciting public feedback during Preview. Beyond the product itself, the notable angle is a major studio shipping a user-facing product via AI-assisted coding and benchmarking it head-to-head against a competitor.
