Dev burns through Opus tokens rendering an O'Neill cylinder — blue sky confirmed
moultano · x · 2026-10-14
Developer mrginden shared an AI-assisted physics rendering of an O'Neill cylinder space colony interior, burning through his Opus token limit along the way. The verdict: the sky inside the cylinder is blue.
- Windows act as mirrors since space is dark — you can't see the stars
- City lights on the far side of the cylinder look spectacular
- Getting it to run performantly is really hard; the live version needs a desktop browser, a modern GPU, and patience
- Not modeled: polarization, atmospheric refraction, non-spherical aerosols, glass thickness, rain/ice
Code is open to PRs and forks. A fun showcase of AI-assisted physical simulation.
