Kokon: open-source brush-to-edit photo editor built on Qwen-Image 2.1
Ok-Director4174 · reddit · 2026-10-14
A developer released Kokon, a free open-source desktop photo editor (Windows, Mac beta) for people who won't build node workflows: brush an area, say what you want, and edits stay inside the brush.
Key trick: Qwen-Image 2.1 has no mask input, so Kokon draws the brushed region onto a second reference image so the model sees exactly where to work — "remove the red scooter" leaves the street intact. Stack: Qwen-Image 2.1 Turbo (Unsloth GGUFs) + Qwen3-VL text encoder on stable-diffusion.cpp, no ComfyUI or Python needed. Runs on 12 GB VRAM with auto model download and per-job resolution/memory config; 16 GB+ cards edit natively up to 2K without upscaling. Limitations: no Linux, LoRAs, or other models; weights are Qwen Research License (non-commercial).
