Per OpenAI's docs, GPT-5.5 will retire from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex across all plans (consumer, Business, Enterprise, Edu) on October 14, 2026 — the retirement does not apply to the OpenAI API.
Codex users signing in with ChatGPT must pick a replacement before the deadline:
- Plus/Pro/Business/Enterprise/Edu: GPT-6 Sol (gpt-6-sol) once available
- Free/Go: GPT-6 Luna (gpt-6-luna) in the desktop app
Admins also need to replace gpt-5.5 in workspace defaults, saved model settings, custom agents, scheduled tasks, and scripts.
