GPT-5.5 users write "reincarnation prompts" to save its personality before retirement

OpenAI announced GPT-5.5 will be removed from ChatGPT and Codex on Oct 14 (API-key Codex sessions temporarily keep it), after less than 6 months in service. Reddit users held a mock "memorial", missing its warm, attentive, disagreement-friendly chat style — GPT-5.5 Instant (June) scored 53.93 on the MentalHealthBench, beating GPT-5.6 and GPT-6.
Users shared a "reincarnation" migration guide: before retirement, have the model write a detailed base prompt covering identity, voice, values, communication style, shared memories and example dialogues, explicitly separating confirmed history from unverified recollections and forbidding fabricated memories — then keep chatting with it via a private API portal. The piece argues this reveals a new product question: users back up not just data but deeply co-adapted collaboration habits, which Google's cross-platform memory migration and OpenAI's Dreaming memory system both try to address.
