Mining Qwen reasoning traces to find the exact prompt phrases that derail your agent
oleg_ivye · reddit · 2026-10-14
The author explored reasoning traces from local models like Qwen3.8 and found they expose the exact phrases in a prompt or skill that make the model argue with the prompt instead of solving the task. These cases are collected into a "confusion-table", each pinned to the triggering phrase with an explanation of the mechanics.
Repairing those phrases shifts the model's reasoning budget back to the task and improves intent-following reliability across runs. Tested on two popular skills, and improved GEPA performance on some benchmarks. A full write-up is available on the author's blog.
