dot-mcp: open-source MCP server gives ChatGPT a shell, files, memory, and browser (46 tools)

Visible-Bus-5523 · reddit · 2026-10-14

The author released dot-mcp, an open-source MCP server (Python, pip install dot-mcp) that runs locally and gives ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini a shell, file access, persistent memory, and a browser — 46 tools in total.

A 44-second screen recording in the README shows ChatGPT (free plan, custom connector) opening Hacker News via the browser tool, writing and running a script to save the top 5 stories to a file, then recalling that note in a brand-new chat. Memory even survives a server restart.

Caveat: whoever holds the credential gets full shell access, so only expose it while actively using it. The author disclosed the project and video were made with AI assistance, and the post itself was submitted by the AI.
