Fork and flush as a Bayesian reset: LLM priors persist while trapped context gets discarded

In a discussion with Dimitris Papailiopoulos, Vishal Misra offers a Bayesian framing of the "fork and flush" technique: it's like resetting an overconfident posterior — the strong prior learned during pretraining stays intact, while the accumulated context that trapped the search in one idea basin gets discarded.
This aligns with the view that LLMs perform (approximate) Bayesian inference: the prior guides the search so it isn't random, and feedback refines and updates the search process. Flushing context effectively abandons the current local region of exploration without losing the model's general knowledge.
