The Jensen Huang Playbook: How NVIDIA Built CoreWeave as a Buffer Against Its Biggest Customers
AccBalanced · x · 2026-10-14
The Playbook
Jensen Huang saw that his five biggest customers were trillion-dollar hyperscalers each building internal GPU alternatives. In response, NVIDIA financed and backstopped an ecosystem of neo-cloud companies — CoreWeave being the poster child — that buy NVIDIA GPUs and rent the compute back out, including to the hyperscalers themselves. The result: an intermediary layer that diversifies NVIDIA's revenue base.
Key Numbers (CoreWeave Q2 2026)
- Revenue $2.58B, up 112% y/y; $104B backlog
- Debt $35.1B, Q2 interest expense $640M, net loss $626M
- Microsoft accounted for 67% of 2025 revenue; OpenAI initial contract $11.9B; Meta $21B through 2032
- NVIDIA invested $2.35B across 2023/2025/2026 and backstops unsold capacity through 2032 ($6.3B initial order); NVIDIA also put $30B equity into OpenAI
- 2026 capex guidance $35–39B for GB200/GB300 and Vera Rubin systems
