Blogger Exposes Fake 'Real-Time AI Generation' Stunt at NBA China Games

AI blogger lipeng0820 called out an Alibaba marketing stunt at the NBA China Games that pretended to generate AI videos of randomly scanned audience members on the spot.
He argues it was pre-generated fakery: the scanned audience members were plants, and gives three reasons—the generation speed is implausibly fast for models like Wan (minutes, not seconds), the host footage doesn't match the reference video, and it mirrors lip-synced stage tricks used in Chinese galas—understandable for broadcast safety, but cheap for marketing. He laments that even on such a stage with Jack Ma present, AI produced output this low-quality, keeping alive the question of what AI is actually for.
