US District Judge Edward Davila ordered OpenAI to hand Apple its interview files on ex-Apple hardware recruits within 14 days, partly granting Apple's bid for early evidence in the trade secrets suit filed July 10.
- OpenAI must produce already-collected interview material within 5 days and remaining records—checklists, guides, scripts and technical presentations—within 14 days.
- The records could show whether interviews touched on Apple technology or components, the crux of Apple's allegation that OpenAI asked candidates to share secret project details and bring prototypes and components to interviews.
- Per Bloomberg, Apple also seeks an injunction barring OpenAI from using hardware secrets allegedly carried over by former employees; Liu, who joined OpenAI in January, is said to have exploited an authentication bug to regain access. Davila will hear that request alongside OpenAI's motion to dismiss—the suit's first major hearing.
