Apple and OpenAI face off in first hearing of AI trade secret lawsuit
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-14
Bloomberg reports the first major hearing in Apple's July lawsuit against OpenAI, with Judge Edward Davila in San Jose hearing Apple's injunction bid alongside OpenAI's motion to dismiss. Apple says ex-employee Liu exploited an authentication bug to download confidential hardware files, later simulating a power converter schematic in LTspice; Apple also claims OpenAI told candidates to bring prototypes to "show and tell" interviews. A ruling would land as OpenAI preps a $300+ smart speaker and a $1.4T-targeted IPO. Apple's hardest task: tracing a specific file into OpenAI's actual product work.
