South Korea approves 20 fenceless humanoid robots on live factory lines alongside workers
CyberRobooo · x · 2026-10-14
South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has approved a regulatory sandbox exemption letting Robros deploy 20 AI bipedal humanoids (IGRIS-C, 154cm, 56kg) on live production lines without traditional safety fences.
Four sites:
- Nepes (semiconductor): cleaning contaminants from circular components in back-end packaging
- Sungwoo Hitech (auto parts): placing body components into designated positions
- HD Hyundai Samho (shipbuilding): stacking scaffolding brackets on ship hulls
- Delivery Lab (logistics): moving refrigerated packaging units
The robots must move, perceive their surroundings, and operate near people rather than stay fixed at one station. Test data will feed into revisions of existing safety standards.
