Tufts and Santa Fe Institute paper models LLM adoption as a 'cognitive virus'

A new arXiv paper co-authored by David Krakauer and Michael Levin models LLM adoption via a viral analogy: users transition among uncoupled, coupled, and persistently dependent states, and social transmission plus collective reinforcement can create tipping points and technological lock-in. Past a critical threshold, small adoption increases trigger population-level runaway dependence with abrupt cognitive-competence losses; the framework also identifies conditions for 'cognitive immunization'.
