Microsoft Patches 1,400+ Flaws in One Month, Credits LLMs for Bug Discovery
suchenzang · x · 2026-10-14
Per KrebsOnSecurity, Microsoft's latest Patch Tuesday fixed over 1,400 vulnerabilities, smashing September's record of 1,000 fixes, pushing 2026's cumulative CVE count past 4,000 — far above 2020's full-year record of 1,261. Microsoft credits large language models for the surge in bug discovery, and presumably for generating many patches. Security experts warn the unusually large patch volleys strain corporate security teams. Forta's Tyler Reguly notes only 26 Microsoft flaws made CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog this year, advising teams to prioritize those. Ex-Google engineer Su Chen quipped at doomers: 'engineers: you can just patch things,' mocking the argument that evil wins in the limit if exploit discovery outpaces patching.
