Anthropic Pays £145K for a London Human Assistant Despite Its Own AI Agents

Anthropic is hiring an administrative business partner in London at roughly £145,000 ($200k) to manage calendars, book travel and monitor executives' inboxes — the very tasks its own Claude assistant promises to automate.
- The maker of Claude is recruiting a human PA even as it ships AI tools that schedule meetings and handle increasingly complex office work.
- "If AI could replace a great PA, an AI company would be the first to do it," said Anna Bailey, founder of assistant network Pally Talk. "AI can manage a calendar, but it can't read a room or make the judgement call when a deal is on the line."
- A July Pally Talk survey found 68% of assistants had made a business-critical decision without sign-off in the past year, and 65% believed they were underpaid.
- Bailey argues AI could make experienced assistants more valuable, as firms lean on their judgement, discretion and relationship management. Anthropic is not alone among AI giants still hiring humans.
