Coatue AI Head Frames Investing as a Compression Problem Solved with Agents
AccBalanced · x · 2026-10-14
Frank Long (@fyxlong), Head of AI at $93B hedge fund Coatue, walked through his approach to applying AI in financial services.
- Decision function: a hedge fund is a function taking external context (news, prices, filings via API) and internal context (positions, liquidity, risk requirements) and outputting a tuple: investment selection, size, and timing.
- Compression: investing is compressing all the world's information into a single decision. Principle: everything an investor can see on screen, an agent should see via API.
- Slides show an agent pipeline from Korean news/DART filings/call transcripts through dedupe/filter/translate/extract to key stock drivers and a propose→review loop.
He also addressed the complexity and compression challenge enterprises face as they diffuse AI.
