deedydas: much of the $200B AI M&A wave is strategic, not fundamentals-driven
deedydas · x · 2026-10-14
In a follow-up to his AI M&A tally, deedydas notes the $200B exit figure excludes the $250B SpaceX-XAI merger and several non-AI acquisitions (Armis, Chronosphere, Semrush).
He poses a sharper question: if such large VC returns are being generated through M&A that is largely strategic rather than tied to fundamentals, how should that change how VCs think about investing and valuations? The implication is that current AI acquisition valuations may embed substantial strategic premia rather than intrinsic value.
