Lightcone Commons has far less money than fundable AI safety proposals: $150M gap
ESYudkowsky · x · 2026-10-14
Yudkowsky explains how Lightcone Commons works: recommenders rank grant proposals by priority, funders direct money to recommenders (with veto rights or direct funding), and an algorithm reconciles priorities to avoid the classic charity problem of everyone waiting for someone else to fund something.
The key point is the funding gap: available money is far below what Nate Soares considers fundable — he believes he could usefully direct $50M, $90M, or $150M (with diminishing marginal utility at each tier). Yudkowsky's own unfunded priority list has another $10M of good room, mostly non-overlapping with Nate's.
