Power User: Opus 5.5 Delivers for Weeks Without Hitting Limits, Frontier Models May No Longer Be Needed
marcvanderchijs · x · 2026-10-14
A heavy AI user shares detailed impressions of Opus 5.5:
- Uses it for nearly every task — friendly, smart and fast; only his AI agents still run on Grok
- Weeks of building and testing software without hitting token limits once
- Best model yet for legal work (though he suspects Fable may be better, he no longer wants to pay per-token)
His bigger claim: models have advanced so fast that 99% of his tasks no longer need better models, meaning hardly anyone will need frontier models. That could shift Anthropic and OpenAI's economics — training mattering less, inference more. He also notes 96% of Americans don't pay for AI at all, let alone use agents.
