A narrative short film on one RTX 3090

Instead of the usual unrelated AI clips, the author tried to make something closer to an actual TV episode: a black-and-white sci-fi parody of The Twilight Zone called The Prompting Zone, episode one The Last Human — an office worker notices something strange about his coworkers.

Workflow

Model: MiniMax H3 Ref2VA Pruned 20B via Wan2GP, single RTX 3090 24GB, 720p, 20 steps
Wrote a full script with all dialogue, split into 5–10 second scenes
Generated a 2×2 grid reference image per scene as a rough storyboard instead of relying purely on text prompts
Fed references into MiniMax with prompts describing camera movement, actions and exact dialogue

Lessons learned

30 minutes per clip, making prompt iteration costly
The model sometimes read the grid as an actual four-panel video, invented movements, or changed backgrounds
Character consistency was the biggest headache: faces drift; character/clothing/environment descriptions had to be repeated in nearly every prompt
Readable on-screen text failed, so UI elements were replaced with portraits and simple icons
Black-and-white helped overall consistency but didn't fix continuity

The author aims to automate script-to-storyboard-to-prompt-to-edit and asks how others handle character consistency across shots.
