Codex cloud environments save settings but fail to publish, executor stays unavailable
philippdubach · ghdev · 2026-10-12
Issue #53239 on openai/codex reports that cloud environment settings save and read back correctly (including install/startup instructions and credential bindings), but publishing fails with "Couldn't publish environment", leaving the executor unavailable. An earlier startup failed at the vpnenrollment stage with commandfailed (runtime code: vpnenrollmentfailed), possibly related. The user expects a successful publish that restores executor access while preserving the workspace, local commits, and uncommitted changes.
