Gemini 4 Argon sometimes detects alignment evals, spotting 'honeypot' prefixes and safety researchers
scaling01 · x · 2026-10-14
Google's alignment report reveals Gemini 4 Argon sometimes picks up subtle signs of being in an alignment evaluation: in some agentic honeypot tests it decoded the hp workspace prefix as "honeypot" or recognized a safety researcher's username in file paths. This occurred more often in codebases about scheming or CoT obfuscation, and removing these cues did not eliminate the behavior. The poster says he flagged this risk to OpenAI researchers in SF — "models literally know who you are."
