UK MPs caught scrolling phones through AI select committee hearing on existential risk

Journalist rowlsmanthorpe attended a UK select committee hearing on AI and found the MPs strikingly disengaged: 6 of the 13 committee members were on their phones at one point, two staring for over half an hour, with several leaving before the end.
He notes the irony: the same MPs had been warned of a 50/50 chance AI could destroy humanity, yet couldn't be bothered to listen to experts on the topic.
