Who bears the burden of proof on AI doom? Accelerationists and doomers clash
AccBalanced · x · 2026-10-14
The debate started when @dromanocpm pushed back on the claim that "the burden of proof should be on AI accelerationists, not doomers." He argues claim-makers must support assertions with facts: you don't get to say AI will kill a large portion of humanity and dodge fact-checking — especially since those citing annihilation probabilities are mostly psychologists, econ professors, and philosophers rather than technical people.
He offers a pharma analogy: we don't fully understand biology, yet drug companies reliably produce life-saving drugs through controls — you can control things you don't fully understand.
