OpenAI says hidden recording device found in office, FBI arrests employee
McDonaghMatthew · x · 2026-10-14
The quoted @OpenAINewsroom statement: OpenAI discovered a sophisticated recording device hidden in one of its offices, used its own models to understand the device and trace it to an employee who planted it days earlier, and referred the matter to the FBI, which made a quick arrest. OpenAI says there's no indication the individual accessed or exfiltrated model weights, source code, or customer data; the employee was terminated. The retweeter quips that the Manhattan Project being built in remote New Mexico 'was for a reason—buckle up.'
