OpenAI revealed it discovered a sophisticated recording device hidden inside one of its offices. Using its own models to analyze the device and its origin, OpenAI identified a specific employee who had planted it days earlier, terminated them, and referred the matter to the FBI, which made a quick arrest. The company says there is no indication of inappropriate access or exfiltration of model weights, source code, or customer data, and the FBI investigation is ongoing.
