FBI arrests OpenAI engineer over alleged eavesdropping device in executive conference room

The FBI arrested Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national employed as an OpenAI engineer since July 2025, for allegedly placing a covert audio recording device in the company's San Francisco executive conference room, discovered around Sept 30. OpenAI says it immediately contacted the FBI and that CCTV captured him; he made his first federal court appearance. Commentator Garrison Lovely notes this implies OpenAI had cameras watching behind its TVs and wonders why the device took so long to catch.
