Spotatui revives spotify-tui by tapping Spotify's internal API to dodge rate limits
LargeModGames · hn · 2026-10-13
Show HN: Spotatui — after adopting the unmaintained spotify-tui nearly a year ago, the author rebuilt much of it around a core pain point: Spotify Web API rate limits and deprecated endpoints (even ncspot's shared client id got throttled).
The fix: a fork of librespot that pulls all data from the internal API used by official clients — metadata, playlists, library, devices, lyrics, audio analysis — with search via Pathfinder, the internal GraphQL API. Every user runs their own session like the official client, so there's no shared quota. The trade-off: the API is undocumented, so Spotify changes could break it; the author pledges fast fixes.
It also plays from YouTube, Navidrome/Subsonic, 30,000 internet radio stations, local files, Qobuz lossless, and Apple Music on macOS. Started as a 2019 TUI, it now has a GUI heading toward full parity with both.
