geoffwolfe · x · 2026-10-14
OpenAI disclosed that it discovered a sophisticated recording device hidden inside one of its offices. The company used its own models to analyze the device and trace its origin, identifying a specific employee who had planted it a few days earlier.
OpenAI referred the matter to the FBI and thanked the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest; the FBI investigation is ongoing.
OpenAI said it has no indications that the individual inappropriately accessed or exfiltrated model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.
According to ScottMStedman, citing a source, the arrested employee was Abdulrahman Alfozan, OpenAI's only Saudi employee.
